An Innovative Bilingual Primary School in Bordeaux
Ages 6–11

The bilingual primary school at Ermitage International School Bordeaux offers a dual-language French-English education for children aged 6 to 11 (Grades 1–5 / CP-CM2). Located in the heart of Bordeaux Caudéran, the school provides a caring, international environment with small class sizes and personalized support. Our innovative programme combines the Montessori approach with a globally inspired curriculum designed to foster curiosity, creativity, and confidence while building a strong academic foundation.
Academic Excellence Supporting Each Child’s Development
At Ermitage International School Bordeaux, every day is an opportunity for discovery, collaboration, and personal growth. Primary students (Grades 1–5 / CP-CM2) thrive in a stimulating, bilingual, and supportive environment where the French national curriculum is both respected and enriched by innovative pedagogical approaches. We combine a globally inspired educational framework with Montessori principles: two complementary approaches that place the child at the heart of learning.
Students learn to think independently, work autonomously and collaboratively, ask meaningful questions, and make informed choices. This modern framework promotes the development of essential future-ready skills while fostering a joy of learning, self-confidence, and global awareness.

A Rich and Immersive Bilingual Education
Daily Language Exposure for Long-Term Fluency
Our international school provides a structured bilingual learning environment where students study two days a week in French and two days a week in English. All classes are taught by native teachers, providing authentic language immersion. This approach encourages a balanced mastery of two modern languages from an early age.
This natural exposure helps students gain confidence in thinking, speaking, and learning in both languages as they explore mathematics, science, arts and physical education in both French and English.
Language Instruction Tailored to Each Student’s Needs
To ensure meaningful and lasting progress, language instruction is adapted to each student's level. We offer:
- English as a Second Language, with preparation for Cambridge Young Learners exams, an internationally recognized certification
- French as a Foreign Language (FLE) for non-francophone students, with preparation for the DELF certification
- Optional Chinese and Spanish classes during school hours, with preparation for the HSK and Cervantes exams

A Strong Pedagogical Foundation Enhanced by an International Dimension
While rooted in the French national curriculum, our teaching goes far beyond academic standards and fosters critical, interdisciplinary understanding and global awareness.
Our international curriculum encourages students to engage in meaningful, real-world projects while developing research, communication, and analytical skills. Learners formulate hypotheses, question sources, build arguments, and express ideas clearly. Learning is grounded in real-life issues, societal challenges, and personal interests, empowering each child to take ownership of their journey and thrive with confidence.

A Peaceful and Inspiring Learning Environment
At Ermitage International School Bordeaux, everything is designed to make school a joyful, safe, and inspiring place. With fewer than 20 students per class, each child benefits from individualised support and the space to grow at their own pace.
Our newly renovated campus features bright, modern spaces designed to promote well-being, concentration, and exploration. Students use high-quality educational tools, from Montessori materials to digital devices like tablets, computers, 3D printers, and interactive whiteboards.
Outdoor activities are also an integral part of school life: students enjoy a 1,800 m² garden, a dojo for judo and motor skills training, Villa Primrose for tennis and field hockey, the Bel Air sports complex, the Parc Bordelais, and Mériadeck ice rink. So many places to move, breathe, and find balance.

A Personal Project to Unlock Each Child's Potential
The highlight of the bilingual primary journey at Ermitage International School Bordeaux is the End-Of-Year Inquiry Exhibition: a collaborative project in which each student presents an interdisciplinary inquiry on a topic they are passionate about.
This milestone brings together all the skills developed throughout their time at Ermitage: research and methodology, digital tools, public speaking, social responsibility, and citizenship. It’s a moment of reflection and self-discovery that helps students prepare for the next stage of their educational journey with confidence.
A Natural Transition to Middle School
By the end of Grade 5 (CM2), our students are proficient in both French and English, with a rich general knowledge, a lively intellectual curiosity and solid self-confidence, all of which prepare them for entering middle school.
Our modern, rigorous and caring approach ensures that the basic common core of skills is far surpassed, making every pupil an autonomous learner with a great capacity to adapt, open to the world and enthusiastic about the idea of learning.
